ANDY ALBER TESTIMONY
Hello, my name is Andy and I am super excited to meet you! Over the past eight years, God has been allowing me awesome experiences within student and young adult ministry as a team leader and as a pastor in the church as a whole. As I have learned and grown through different positions and places God has continually sharpened my understanding of the gifting and passions that He has placed within me for ministry, and I am excited for what He is doing next.
For the first fifteen years of my life I ran as far away from God as I possibly could, due to my own sinful brokenness and the bad situations that I got myself into. Despite being a pastor's kid and growing up in an amazing family and church, I was rebellious and angry all the time. Shortly before my fifteenth birthday, right at the end of my freshman year of high school, my youth pastor sat me down and with tears in his eyes explained that I could no longer be a part of the youth ministry because I was a danger to the other students. His genuine love for me in that conversation broke me and that night I admitted that I was wrong for the first time.
One month later, now fifteen, I attended a summer camp as a senior high camper for the first time. Walking into that week I told God that I would try to meet Him there and that I desperately needed Him to show up in my life (of course, He had been waiting on me my whole life). Wednesday night came and during a student-led worship and prayer time I spontaneously walked up to the stage with another camper in front of all the other students and knelt on the ground to pray for him. As I looked over my shoulder behind me at all the other students in the room, I realized that they had all stopped singing and had bowed their heads in prayer for us. In that moment the weight and glory of who God is and what He desires for His children in terms of love, grace, and community came crashing down on my soul and replaced the weight of the sin, shame, and pride that had held on to me for so long.
Later that night I fully surrendered my life to Christ and my life has been different ever since. I was baptized a short time later and called to ministry quickly after that in the winter of my sophomore year of high school when I went on a retreat with my youth group. During an evening session, my youth pastor got up with tears in his eyes and whispered, “This is my job.” From that moment on, I knew that God was calling me to walk with students and others on their journey to knowing Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Since then, God has continually confirmed that calling in me through prayer, community, and experience in ministry with churches and nonprofits.
Just last year in April, in the beginning of Covid, I married my incredible wife Cora. She is a passionate partner with me in ministry and a gifted servant of the Gospel in her own right through various different creative mediums and her deep, authentic, and intentional relationships with those around her. Together, we are excited about what God is doing in and through Peoples Church and are ecstatic to partner with you all in faith!
